Lontra provocax (Mustelidae), Southern River Otter (EN)
The Southern River Otter is a very endangered species due to the destruction of the habitat as well as the invasion of an other otter species. They are normal solitary and only gather during reproductive season. They can live in salt as well as fresh water. Important to them is that many trees are on the side of the rivers that reach within the water, where the Southern River Otter can hunt for fish. I was able to record this species around 3am because it woke me up making lots of noises (splashing in the water) while sleeping in the tent next to the river (Vid. 01).
